The project

Photos for Life is a project that wants to improve our lives, one photo at a time, by collaborating with all kinds of organisations that make an impact in the world.

History

My name is Marc Najera, I’ve loved taking photos since I was a kid and nevertheless I’ve never wanted to become a professional photographer.

Weird isn’t it?

I know, but that’s the way it is. So what to do with the literally tens of thousands of photos that I’d taken that were just sitting in one of my hard drives?

I decided to do three things:

  • Delete the bad or average photos
  • Organise and keep the good ones for myself
  • And give the best ones for free on Unsplash

Still, there were a few of them -the absolute best of the best- that felt too valuable to be given away.

I wanted to keep them, but that sounded useless and a bit selfish, I didn’t want to sell them -after all I don’t want to be a professional photographer- so I thought I’d use them for something bigger than myself and Photos for Life is the idea that came to my mind.

How it works

Essentially, if you buy a photo through this website you’re making two donations:

  1. 90% of the price goes to an organisation or cause related to the image
  2. The remaining 10% is a donation to Photos for Life and will be used to cover the maintenance costs of this website and to fund the photography gear and software used to create the images you see
